Jewish Synagogue

                   Situated in the Mattancherry, the synagogue is believed to have been built in 1568. Also known as the Synagogue and Mattancherry Synagogue Paradesi. The synagogue of the Jews is the oldest synagogue in the entire Commonwealth of Nations. Therefore, higher housing includes the itinerary of tourists visiting the city. People Yehuda Malabar or Cochin Jewish community. The synagogue is located in what is today known as Jew Town in Kochi city in Kerala. It is the only one of seven synagogues in the area, still in use.
The synagogue was built on land gifted to Malabari Yehud community by Raja Varma, the then Raja of Kochi and shares a common wall with the famous temple Mattancherry Palace. The Yehudan Malabar or Cochin Jews had three sects of people. Jews were white upscale professionals and merchants, and they were full members of the Jewish synagogue.

It is a pleasure to attend the combination of accessories from different countries, the pride of the synagogue. This architecture includes Chinese tiles and Belgian chandeliers, which enhances its beauty. You can also go through the giant rollers of the Old Testament was preserved by road.
They were the descendants of European and Middle Eastern Jews, who were traveling to India, the pre-British times. Black Hebrews, where merchants and craftsmen were only to pray, and as such has not achieved full membership. Meshuhrarim, a group of freed slaves, there was no common law rather than their own synagogues. They sat on the floor or the stairs outside. Interestingly, in accordance with the Hindu and Islamic traditions of Kerala, the faithful came back to the streets barefoot, and a Jewish synagogue.

Location: Jewish Synagogue is situated at a distance of 6 km from the Kochi city and 27 km from Kochi International Airport.
Details: Visiting time from 10 am to 12 pm, and 3 pm to 5 pm, except on Saturdays and Jewish holidays.
