It imitates the sound of a rooster, as it appears in the morning. With this, it seemed that dawn was approaching.
Fearing the arrival of light, the demons fled, leaving his work half done. It is believed that even today there is evidence that demon half finished its work. This evidence includes large rocks demons are supposed to have been shot in the bed of the river, the Old Kettu Bhoothathan. Periyar River flows through the narrow space, the demons have not been able to hold. Thus, the name is Bhoothathankettu, which means "strength of the spirits."
